ITV’s Ready Steady Go! — Broadcast live, 6:08-7:00 pm
The Story
A brooding Gene Clark captured in front of David Crosby’s WEM GR60 solid-state amplifier during a rehearsal break on the set of Ready Steady Go!
On the evening of August 2, 1965, The Byrds’ arrival in Britain, Clark meets Paul McCartney in London’s Scotch of St James nightclub. According to an interview in the February 25, 1966, issue of New Musical Express, Clark is so inspired by this meeting that, after returning to his room in the Europa Hotel on Grosvenor Square that evening, he writes ‘Set You Free This Time.’
Also appearing on this week’s Ready Steady Go!: The Who (who perform as a three-piece without Roger Daltrey, who is ill), Sonny and Cher, and Brian Poole & The Tremeloes.
