The Story

The Rolling Stones appear on this week's Ready Steady Go! to promote the upcoming release (October 25) of their latest UK single, 'Get Off Of My Cloud' — the all-important follow-up to the summer's worldwide smash, '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction.' The single, released the previous month in the US (September 25), will quickly reach No. 1 on both sides of the Atlantic.

Despite the commercial success of 'Get Off Of My Cloud,' some group members are less than pleased with the recorded result. In a 1970 interview with Robert Greenfield for Rolling Stone, Keith Richard* recalled the pressure the group encountered from management and Decca to follow on the success of 'Satisfaction' quickly:

"I never dug it as a record. The chorus was a nice idea, but we rushed it as the follow-up. We were in LA [Los Angeles, where '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction' was recorded], and it was time for another single. But how do you follow up 'Satisfaction'? Actually, what I wanted was to do it slow, like a Lee Dorsey thing. We rocked it up. I thought it was one of Andrew Loog Oldham's worst productions."

Also appearing on this week's Ready Steady Go!: Chris Farlowe and The Thunderbirds, The Searchers, Hamilton, David and Jonathan, Beryl Marsden, and The Animals

*Richards re-establishes the 's' at the end of his surname following the resolution of his 1977 drug bust in Toronto.
