The Story

Two weeks after completing their second tour of North America, The Rolling Stones convene at ATV's Birmingham studios. The group pre-records four mimed performances for a special edition of ABC Weekend Television’s Thank Your Lucky Stars to be broadcast the following Saturday. Songs performed: 'Around and Around,' 'Little Red Rooster,' 'Off The Hook,' 'Empty Heart'

The Stones were the featured guests for this special edition of Thank Your Lucky Stars, and were in studio to promote their fifth UK single, 'Little Red Rooster,' which Decca had released only days before the group’s return from America. As Jagger & Richards were still in the early stages of finding their way as consistent songwriters, this fifth single also marked the fifth time in a row that the group relied on outside material for the A-side of a UK disc. Cover song or not, 'Little Red Rooster' shot to the top of the UK charts on December 5, 1964; the very day this episode aired. It remains the only blues song to reach No. 1 on the British charts and marked the final time The Stones would release a cover as a UK single during the '60s.

Gear aficionados, take note; this episode of 'Thank Your Lucky Stars' marks the first appearance of Bill Wyman’s famous Framus 5/150 Star Bass De Luxe, commonly referred to as the "Humbug" bass for its resemblance to a popular striped British candy of the same name.

Also appearing on this special edition of Thank Your Lucky Stars: Sandie Shaw, Clinton Ford, Herman's Hermits, Mark Wynter, Petula Clark, Janice Nicholls
