ITV’s Ready Steady Go! – Broadcast live, 6:08-7:00pm
Left to right: Ray Davies, Dave Davies, Pete Quaife, and Mick Avory
The Story
The Kinks possibly rehearsing ‘Long Tall Shorty’ prior to their debut performance of ‘All Day and All of the Night’ while Ready Steady Go! dancer and presenter, Patrick Kerr observes from the left of the stage. This appearance is widely referenced as being lip-synced, but numerous photographs in our archives clearly document instruments plugged into mic’d amplifiers, suggesting an early Ready Steady Go! live performance.
This episode of Ready Steady Go! is infamous for Ray Davies being pulled from the stage, twice, by a mob of overexcited girls during the live broadcast debut of ‘All Day and All of the Night.’
Also appearing on this week’s Ready Steady Go!: The Dixie Cups, Sugar Pie Desanto, The Art Woods, Jimmy Reed, The Yardbirds, Rod Stewart, The Mike Cotton Sound, and Jackie DeShannon
