The Story

The Who perform two shows (6:30 & 9:00 PM) at the Kiel Opera House in support of Herman's Hermits — with special guests, The Blues Magoos.

During a performance at the Mississippi State Coliseum in Jackson, Mississippi, on August 1, Townshend slices his finger to the bone against his guitar strings while doing windmills. Following the show, longtime art school friend Tom Wright, accompanying the band as a tour photographer, takes Townshend to a local doctor. Following stitches, the doctor informs Townshend that he'll not be able to play guitar for a month. Facing the possibility of dropping from the tour, Townshend replies that he'll simply glue a pick to his bandages.
