ITV’s Ready Steady Go! – Broadcast live, 6:08-7:00pm

Left to right: Ray Davies, Mick Avory (obscurred), Pete Quaife, and Dave Davies

The Story

The Kinks running through their latest release, ‘All Day and All of the Night’ during  rehearsals on Ready Steady Go! Performances of ‘Just Can’t Go To Sleep’ and ‘Long Tall Shorty’ are listed but unconfirmed. This appearance is widely referenced as being lip-synced, but numerous photographs in our archives clearly document instruments plugged into mic’d amplifiers, suggesting an early Ready Steady Go! live performance. In fact, Dave Davies’ legendary Elpico AC55 amplifier (“The Little Green Amp”) is just visible stage left, boosted through and sitting behind the Vox AC30.

This episode of Ready Steady Go! is remembered for Ray Davies twice being pulled from the stage by a mob of overexcited girls during the live broadcast debut of ‘All Day and All of the Night.’

Also appearing on this week’s Ready Steady Go!: The Dixie Cups, Sugar Pie Desanto, The Art Woods, Jimmy Reed, The Yardbirds, Rod Stewart, The Mike Cotton Sound, and Jackie DeShannon
