The Story

Before tonight's live broadcast, The Beatles pre-record a truncated version of 'Help!', which will later follow Sullivan's sign-off and roll behind credits and sponsor bumpers. Because the spots for Lipton iced tea (featuring Lipton spokesman George Fenneman) and Kent cigarettes (featuring Bob' Mr. Kent' Wright) simultaneously share the stage with The Beatles, two takes are required to achieve proper sound levels.

The Beatles perform six songs: 'I Feel Fine,' 'I'm Down,' 'Act Naturally,' 'Ticket To Ride,' 'Yesterday,' and 'Help!'(with Lennon forgetting the lyrics).

Other acts on tonight's show: Soupy Sales, Cilla Black, comedians Marty Allen & Steve Rossi, and magician, Fantasio.
